Seaside Industry Park Rauma (SIPR) is the hub of the maritime cluster in Rauma. Successful principal companies in shipbuilding and marine production with wide and efficient supplier network operate in the park. The region is utilizing versatile infrastructure and comprehensive common services.
The aim of SIPR is to optimize energy and resource use by utilizing measurement and digital techniques. A new smart measurement and monitoring system will be designed to monitor the use of utilities (electricity, heat, water, pressurized air, gas) of the properties of the SIPR as a means to reduce the energy consumption. During 2020 one of the properties introduced a prototype that simulates the system covering the property area and its functions. The prototype aims to identify how well the system operates and test its functionalities. After the implementation of the prototype the system has been installed in other properties as well and next entities were taken into use in autumn 2021. The third broadly instrumented property will be finished in 2022
Revolutionary ideas
The new system allows for charging tenants for utilities based on actual consumption, resulting in a fairer payment of resource use and a financial motivation for savings.
Revolutionary to the existing systems and practices, the new smart monitoring and measurement system is transparent to all system users providing the real time data enabling user to adjust their operations on time. It also allows tracking the carbon footprints of individual processes and products.
Expected results are a reduction of the total energy consumption from electricity, heat, water, pressurized air, gas in relation to production volume by 30%, a reduction of CO2 emissions by 30%, a replicable model for industrial parks elsewhere in Finland.
